More technology please.
It seems that some schools high tech equipment in their classrooms and other schools barely have enough computers for each classroom. I wonder why there is such a gap in the technology that students have access to. School funding has always been a topic of inequality. Schools in "nice" neighborhoods have more funding for the new technology and latest classroom gadgets. Schools in "poor" areas can't quite seem to funding for these things. We are perpetuating the educational gap that exists between areas of socioeconomic differences. We need to push for more equality amongst schools. Who is say that some children are more deserving than others? No child chose to become a part of the socioeconomic standing that they exist in. Why should we deny some students the chance to experience new technology and gain the edge to compete in a global world.
HERE is an interesting look at the progression of technology as it relates to education.

Are we helping our students get ahead?
As teachers, we need to help our students get ahead. The global world is a place that thrives on the use of technology. Integrating technology into the classroom is a way to give our students the leading edge they will need to compete in the global society. Today, most schools are lacking basic funding for extra curricular activities. Technology for the classroom is not a top priority because those that are in charge of budget allocation do not see the importance in using technology to enhance the students' learning. If you find yourself in this situation- if you believe that technology could further student exploration and enhance their learning, visit this site to find out how you can get a grant for new technology in your school.
GRANTS!!
The government has put a push on education to get U.S students ahead globally. A plan to enhance and improve education across the country was developed. Read the information on this link (http://www.ed.gov/edblogs/technology/netp-2010/) to see the views and plan for technology in U.S. education from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Education Technology.

Technology in the Classroom
"It's 2012." Have you ever caught yourself saying that? I overheard someone saying that phrase just last week when talking about the MAC computers not being able to print from the COE computer lab. She was implying that the technology is lagging considering what year it is now. People have high expectations for technology use. Most people have the latest phone that is really a small computer that links their entire life from the palm of their hand. If we expect the best in our lives, why are our students not also experiencing this technology overload? Many classrooms today do not have basic technology other than a classroom computer or a overhead projector. How can we expect our students to compete in a global world when they do not have the skills and experience to mirror that of other parts of the world? We need more use of technology in the classrooms. All schools, not just schools in high socioeconomic areas should have some level of technology to be used in the classrooms. Teachers need training on more ways to work with and integrate technology into the classroom in a way that enhance the learning.
